How do you explain or describe something or a place people would think is impossible to exist. How do you describe one hunting area with free roaming game from the East to the West and from the North to the South ... no fences, no cars, no humans or any disruptions while you hunt.
Just you, your hunting crew and the wild open spaces. Here is where you feel the blessing from a Higher hand. Here is where hunters become humble and find themselves again. Away from the hush and rush of modern life.
I am talking about hunting in Burkina Faso in West Africa. Fairly new to most American hunters but a definite for the hunter who is looking for a new challenge and adventure. Kuche safaris teamed up with our long time French partner to be able to make this old African experience possible to you. I am talking about one area outlined by rivers and 650 square miles of just pure wilderness available to you.
Our camp facilities and operation can be described as a Mercedes in a Toyota world. With 8 daily serviced on-suite air conditioned rooms, daily laundry and fresh food and drinks with every meal you can just go relax and enjoy your hunt. Long hunting days contributes to great stories around the campfire in the evenings.
This area has been operated by our host and partner Didier for many years and he have the sole hunting rights to this area. Kuche safaris are a well known and respected hunting outfit.
Our main camp is about 230 miles from Quagadougou the capital where you fly into from Paris and where we will meet you on arrival. It is a friendly airport and people are helpful, even with receiving your favourite rifle.
The main species to hunt are the Western Savannah Buffalo and Western Roan with a variety of smaller game to fill your experience and memories While out hunting you have a good chance to run into free roaming lion, Elephant, hippo or crocodile. Hunting is mostly done by spot and stalk. Tracking in the old traditional way is always an experience to remember.
Hunting season is from December to end April with our preferred time in March. This is when visibility are good and before April which is the real warm month.
Jim Shockey hunted with our host Didier and according to him had just a great time.
As this is a new hunting area to most American hunters. Few USA references are available but information can be given on request. These hunters hunted with us in March 2017. They had a great time and hunted some true African trophies.
This is the way we do it….
Kuche Safaris have extended our hunting areas to Burkina Faso. This is areas that is not well known to USA citizens. This is safe and you will definitely have a true African feeling and experience in this untamed and wild area. This area provides for the hunter who hunted South Africa & Namibia and ask what now? what's next? Our representative and host in Burkina Faso is well known to us and we dealt on a regular basis since 2009. The hunting season is from December till April but we will accompany our clients from the USA after our marketing season in the USA. This is normally beginning of March. We will fly with the first hunters and will meet the next group of hunters on arrival in Ougadougou. April is really hot! Jim Shockey hunted our areas and if you saw his shows on Burkina Faso, this is our area, camp and guides.

Plainsgame & Wingshooting
Burkina Faso (ex Haute Volta) covers 106 000 square miles with a population of 10 million inhabitants. Altitude is 650-1650 ft. The capital is Ouagadougou; it is bordered in the North by Mali, in the East by Niger, in the West by Mali and Ivory Coast, in the South by Ghana, Togo and Benin. The country is poor in natural resources; agriculture is the main source of income. The North is a dessert region, the wetter West is agricultural and is covered with shrubby savannah which the wild animals love. This country remains one of the most abounding in game of West Africa. We find a lot of Elephants, Hippos, Crocodiles, Buffaloes, Lions and many varieties of antelope, Warthogs and Monkeys.
How we hunt:
Plains game: Early departure in the morning with team allocated to you for the whole stay (a driver, trackers and professional hunter). Search for fresh tracks and stalking. Hunting is practiced by stalking under the responsibility of your guide and tracker. The order of shooting an animal is given by the PH’s. Guaranteed emotion! Buffalo hunting is practiced by tracking, whereas lions and antelopes are approached. Bush lunch and coming back to the camp before nightfall.
Wings hooting: Early departure in the morning for guinea-fowl, francolins, hares, pigeons and rock hens. In the evening, all around pond, turtle doves, sand grouses and pigeons plus approaching for the warthogs, monkeys and duikers..
Arms and ammunition: Preferably bring with your personal guns gauges 12 for wing shooting. For the gauges 20, advise us in advance. For rifles advised gauges (5x685, 9.3x62, 375 HH and more) Rifles can be hired. Shells are available at the hunting camp. Bow hunt is also possible.
Taxidermist and preparation of trophies: The field preparation is carried out on the spot by the skinner. We arrange at the end of the season, to have your trophies shipped to the place agreed upon with you. We have arranged with Wesco shipping a new York based company with several offices over the USA to assist with this.
